A Compact but Varied Hike

The 2.0-mile loop is moderate in difficulty, offering a mix of gentle climbs and interesting terrain. Despite its shorter length, the trail packs in plenty of variety and keeps things engaging from start to finish.

Rocky Paths and Scenic Views

As we made our way along the trail, we passed through rocky sections and open viewpoints that gave us a sense of the park’s rugged beauty. Each turn seemed to offer something new to take in.

Woodpeckers at Work
Acorn Woodpeckers
One of the first highlights was spotting a couple of Acorn Woodpeckers together on a tree trunk. Watching them cling to the bark and move in sync was a fun and lively moment early in the hike.

Jays in the Landscape
Steller’s Jay
A few Steller’s Jays appeared along the trail, their bold calls and striking colors making them easy to notice. They moved confidently through the trees, adding a bit of energy to the surroundings.

A Touch of Blue
Western Bluebird
We also spotted a Western Bluebird perched in an open area. Its bright color stood out beautifully against the earthy tones of the rocky terrain.

A Wren with a Prize
Canyon Wren
One of the most memorable sightings was a Canyon Wren holding a small bug. It paused just long enough for us to notice before disappearing among the rocks, giving us a quick but special glimpse of its behavior.

Costa’s Hummingbird
A Costa’s Hummingbird zipped past us, catching the light for just a moment before vanishing. Its quick appearance added a burst of motion to the otherwise calm hike.

By the time we completed the loop, we felt refreshed and happy with the experience.

The combination of unique scenery and a handful of great bird sightings made this hike another enjoyable adventure for us.
