We recently headed out for a hike on the Buzzards Roost Trail in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. The clear April day and fresh coastal air made it an ideal time to explore one of the most beautiful parts of California together.

One of the most memorable moments came when we spotted a Steller’s Jay gathering what looked like nesting material. Watching it carefully pick and carry pieces was a fascinating glimpse into its busy spring routine.

A few Bushtits moved quickly through the lower branches, traveling together in a lively group. Their constant motion made them fun to follow as they passed through the trees.

We saw a bunch of Dark-eyed Juncos throughout the hike. They hopped along the ground and flitted between branches, adding a steady rhythm of activity along the trail.

By the time we finished the loop, we felt refreshed and grateful for the day. The mix of scenic views, gentle challenge, and simple bird encounters made this Buzzards Roost hike another memorable adventure for us.
