A Cloudy Morning at Cuyamaca

We recently set out for a morning hike on the Harvey Moore to East Side Loop Trail in Rancho Cuyamaca State Park near San Diego.

Soft Light Through the Trees

With the clouds overhead, the light filtering through the trees felt soft and even. The forest had a quiet, steady atmosphere that made it easy to slow down and take everything in.

Early in the hike, we spotted a couple of Oak Titmice moving through the branches.

Jays in the Forest

Steller’s Jay

A few Steller’s Jays made their presence known with their bold calls and striking appearance.

They moved confidently through the trees, standing out against the subdued tones of the cloudy day.

Warblers on the Move

Nashville Warbler

We were excited to see a Nashville Warbler flitting through the foliage.

Not long after, a few Black-throated Gray Warblers appeared, adding even more movement and variety to the bird activity around us.

Bluebirds in the Open

Western Bluebirds

A couple of Western Bluebirds perched in more open areas along the trail. Their bright colors provided a beautiful contrast to the gray sky above.

A Hawk Overhead

Red-tailed Hawk

Looking up, we noticed a Red-tailed Hawk soaring high overhead. Watching it glide across the sky added a peaceful, expansive feeling to the hike.
